Syrdarya Man Fined for Slandering Traffic Officer Online

Administrative penalties are now being imposed for distributing distorted images of law enforcement officers that tarnish their reputation. A recent case heard by the Gulistan City Criminal Court involved a girl who shared a photo of a traffic police officer, accusing him of being a “liar and blackmailer,” resulting in her facing an administrative penalty.
In Syrdarya, a similar incident occurred where a girl posted a photo of a Syrdarya Region Internal Affairs Directorate Traffic Safety Department officer on Instagram with the intent to discredit him. The court ruled on the case, which Kun.uz reviewed.
According to court documents, 20-year-old Z.Yu. shared a photo on her Instagram account of O.R., a specialist in the Syrdarya Region Internal Affairs Directorate’s Traffic Safety Department, accusing him of dishonesty and blackmail. She was charged with distributing information that discredits a law enforcement officer.
During the court hearing, Z.Yu. admitted to her offense, explaining that she acted out of anger due to a previous encounter with O.R. She expressed regret for her actions and assured the court that she would not repeat such behavior.
The court found Z.Yu. guilty of violating Article 195-2 of the Administrative Responsibility Code and imposed a fine of 7.5 million soums, collected in favor of the state. This penalty serves as a reminder of the consequences of distributing distorted images or videos of law enforcement officers with the intent to discredit them.
Legislation introduced in 2025 prohibits the dissemination of distorted photos and videos of law enforcement officers. Citizens are allowed to photograph and record officers but must not alter the images in a way that damages their reputation. Violating this law can result in fines or administrative detention.
It is important to respect the integrity of law enforcement officers and refrain from sharing misleading or defamatory content about them. Upholding the reputation and professionalism of those who serve and protect our communities is essential for a safe and trusting society.
