Syrdarya to Establish New Industrial Zones, Creating 20,000 Jobs and Targeting $5 Billion Investment

Eight new industrial zones are on the horizon for Syrdarya’s districts, in a bid to attract a whopping $5 billion in investments. This ambitious plan is part of a wider strategy to boost economic growth, create job opportunities, and elevate the region’s overall development. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized these initiatives in a recent meeting, underscoring the significance of these projects for Syrdarya.
Recent advancements in sectors like construction and energy have been evident, alongside the successful “Saykhunabad experience” in supporting small businesses and subsidiary farms. However, challenges persist, with the poverty rate in the region exceeding 11% and 22,000 individuals currently unemployed.
The establishment of industrial zones in eight districts spanning approximately 900 hectares is underway, with the potential to generate over 20,000 jobs. The region’s role in transport infrastructure is also key, with plans to develop up to 500,000 square meters of trade and service areas along prominent highways, employing 50,000 individuals.
In agriculture, there is great potential for cultivating cotton, fruit and vegetable crops, and melons. Processing enterprises and exporters will be linked to subsidiary farms and areas adjacent to canals, covering 38,000 hectares. Expansion of potato, onion, and berry cultivation is also on the agenda, along with the development of rice production on 25,000 hectares of land across eight districts.
A comprehensive renovation program for the region includes the construction of modern residential complexes with 15,000 apartments, drawing from successful models in Margilan and the Dustlik district. Developers will receive tax and customs benefits to ensure the affordability of new housing. The president has greenlit initiatives to expand the territories of Gulistan and Shirin.
A significant $100 million budget has been allocated for the modernization of roads, power grids, housing, and social infrastructure. By July 1, efforts to provide Gulistan with clean drinking water must be completed. By year-end, the region aims to attract $2 billion in investments, with exports projected to rise to $500 million. These endeavors are expected to create over 16,000 jobs and reduce the poverty rate to 7.4%.
Overall, the future looks promising for Syrdarya, with innovative projects and strategic investments set to drive progress, prosperity, and sustainable development in the region.
