Szijjártó Raises Concerns About China; Accuses EU of Being Antagonistic Towards the Country

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has stated that Hungary wants to avoid an “anti-China bloc” forming within the European Union (EU) and has called for strategic cooperation instead. According to Szijjártó, the EU should not be defining China as an “antagonistic rival” and should instead focus on building strong ties. He highlighted the significant economic links between the EU and China, emphasising that bilateral trade turnover reached €860bn ($1.01tn) last year, primarily between Germany, France and Italy. Szijjártó called for politics not to interfere with the “division of labour” that has emerged between Western and Eastern industries, so that both regions can benefit economically.
