Taalaibek Abykeev Named Chairman of Bishkek City Court
Taalaibek Abykeev Appointed as Chairman of Bishkek City Court
In a recent development, Taalaibek Abykeev has been appointed as the Chairman of the Bishkek City Court for a term of five years by order of the Chairman of the Supreme Court. This news was reported by the press service of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The head of the Supreme Court, Mederbek Satyev, congratulated the new chairman and emphasized the importance of carrying out his work in strict accordance with the requirements of the law.
Taalaibek Abykeev, who is 49 years old, previously served as a judge of the Bishkek City Court. It is known from open sources that he had acquitted and released from the courtroom a person accused of a serious crime until the verdict could be appealed.
However, on October 17, 2023, human rights activist Kamil Ruziev reported that the Supreme Court overturned two acquittals in a high-profile case involving the harassment of an underage girl. The case was sent for a new trial to the Sverdlovsky District Court.
Kamil Ruziev pointed out that the victim’s side plans to declare a lack of confidence in the entire composition of the Sverdlovsky District Court, as its chairman, Taalaibek Abykeev, had previously acquitted and released a person accused of a serious crime illegally.
The appointment of Taalaibek Abykeev as the Chairman of the Bishkek City Court is likely to raise questions and debates within the legal and human rights community. Only time will tell how his tenure will unfold and impact the judicial system in the Kyrgyz Republic.
