Taçoy’s April 1 Statement on BRTK
National Unity Party (UBP) Deputy Hasan Taçoy has strongly condemned the celebration of the establishment of EOKA in Southern Cyprus, as well as the remarks made by Greek Cypriot Administration President Nikos Hristodulidis during the ceremonies. In a written statement, Taçoy expressed his dismay at Hristodulidis’ lack of commitment to resolving the equality issues in Cyprus.
Taçoy emphasized that Hristodulidis’ statements have only served to further justify the Turkish Cypriots’ insistence on sovereignty and statehood. He denounced the glorification of Eoka terrorists by Hristodulidis, stating that such actions undermine the efforts towards peace and reconciliation in Cyprus.
The Deputy also expressed his confidence in President Ersin Tatar’s ability to respond appropriately to Hristodulidis’ remarks and to uphold the rightful demands of the Turkish Cypriot people. Taçoy highlighted the importance of the principles of ‘state’, ‘sovereignty’, ‘equality’, and the role of Turkey as the effective and actual guarantor of Cyprus.
He urged those who fail to recognize the significance of these principles to reconsider their stance in light of recent events. Taçoy also voiced his support for the upcoming bilateral meeting and the new policy initiatives proposed with Turkey, emphasizing the potential for positive developments in Cyprus and the wider region.
