Former U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton Supports Israeli Retaliation Against Iran
In a recent interview with RFE/RL, former U.S. national security adviser John Bolton expressed his support for Israel’s right to retaliate against Iran following a recent attack. Bolton stated that if the United States were faced with a similar attack as Israel experienced on April 13, Washington would retaliate by targeting the bases and facilities responsible for the attack.
Bolton emphasized that Israel should be allowed to respond in the same way the U.S. would in such a situation. He also mentioned that given the uncertainty surrounding potential nuclear warheads in future ballistic missile launches from Iran, it would be in Israel’s best interest to consider destroying Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
The recent attack on Israel has raised concerns about potential escalation in the region, with fears of a full-scale war becoming more prominent. Michael Horowitz, head of intelligence at Le Beck International consultancy, highlighted the risks involved in such a scenario, including Israeli strikes in Iran, engagement with Hizballah in Lebanon, and Iranian attempts to close the Persian Gulf.
Bolton criticized the Biden administration for not taking a strategic approach to the conflict in the Middle East. He pointed out that all terrorist groups operating in the region are backed by Iran, emphasizing the need for a strong response to Iran’s actions.
Despite uncertainty surrounding Israel’s response to the recent attack, Bolton suggested that it might be a lower-level retaliation in the coming days. He also noted that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has a deep understanding of the Iran nuclear threat.
Bolton, who served as President Donald Trump’s national security adviser, has been vocal about his views on foreign policy and national security issues. While his time in the White House was met with controversy, Bolton continues to advocate for a firm stance against threats posed by Iran in the Middle East.
