Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been on a tour of European capitals after accepting the Charlemagne Prize in Aachen, Germany. While in Paris, he met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss building up Ukraine’s arsenal and the need for an ad hoc tribunal for prosecuting atrocities “committed in connection with Russia’s war of aggression”, but France declined to send coveted fighter jets. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged Germany’s “full support” to Ukraine on its journey to become an EU member and thanked Zelenskiy for defending European values. The Ukrainian president also met with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Poland. Zelenskiy will next visit London to hold talks with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. On the war front, Ukrainian forces continue to repel Russian invasions, intercepting and destroying three missiles and 25 drones overnight, while Russian forces carried out missile and drone strikes in Ukraine, including hitting the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil, which houses this year’s Ukrainian candidates at the Eurovision 2023 Song Contest.
