Tajikistan to Build its First Subway System in Dushanbe
The government of Tajikistan has announced its ambitious plans to begin the construction of the country’s first subway system in Dushanbe in 2025. The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan stated that the preparation of the technical and economic study will be completed by April-May 2025, followed by the commencement of the detailed design for the subway construction in June-July.
The first line of the light metro in Dushanbe is expected to connect the southern outskirts of the city to the center, with stops at the State Circus, spanning a total of 10.5 km. This project marks a significant milestone in Tajikistan’s transportation and infrastructure development.
In March 2022, Tajikistan’s Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrahim, and the Chairman of the National Railway Company of South Korea, Kim Han Yong, signed a Memorandum of Understanding that included the metro project in Dushanbe. This partnership highlights the international collaboration and expertise that will be involved in the construction of the subway system.
This initiative is expected to enhance public transportation options in Dushanbe and improve connectivity within the city. As Tajikistan moves forward with its plans to build the subway system, it signifies a positive step towards modernizing the country’s infrastructure and fostering economic development.
