Tashkent Allocates 6 Billion UZS for Drainage System Upgrade
Tashkent Allocates Funds to Enhance Drainage System Following Criticism from President
In response to recent criticism from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tashkent’s city administration has taken action by allocating 6 billion UZS to enhance the capital’s drainage system. The decision, formalized in a decree signed by Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzoqov on October 22, aims to address issues with the drainage system, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
The funding for this project comes from the surplus of the city’s local budget for the third quarter of this year. In addition to this allocation, an extra 20.4 billion UZS has been set aside for construction and repair works aimed at preventing flooding in Tashkent during the rainy season.
President Mirziyoyev expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the city’s drainage infrastructure during a meeting held on October 21. As a result, city officials have been instructed to develop a comprehensive master plan and program for building and improving the drainage system, including the construction of artificial reservoirs, by the end of the year.
With these efforts to enhance the drainage system in Tashkent, the city aims to better prepare for and mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall and potential flooding. This initiative reflects a commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of residents in the capital city.
