Tashkent and Washington Aligned on Afghan Issue and Ongoing Cooperation
The Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev, met with US Ambassador Jonathan Henick yesterday to discuss bilateral cooperation on Afghanistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that both parties expressed their mutual interest in maintaining regular dialogue on the Afghan reconciliation process.
They also noted with satisfaction that the positions and approaches of Tashkent and Washington on resolving the Afghan issue largely coincide. The upcoming meeting of special representatives on Afghanistan, scheduled for February under the chairmanship of UN Secretary-General António Guterres in Doha, the capital of Qatar, was also discussed during the talks.
The meeting signifies the continued efforts of Uzbekistan and the United States to work together in addressing the Afghan issue. With both countries sharing similar views on the matter, it is likely that their collaboration will contribute positively to the ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan.
