
Tashkent Police Bust 60 Million UZS Counterfeit Currency Ring

Two Individuals Arrested in Tashkent for Attempting to Distribute Counterfeit Money
Law enforcement authorities in Tashkent have successfully apprehended two individuals who were caught attempting to distribute 60 million UZS counterfeit money. The suspects were trying to sell 300 fake banknotes with a nominal value of 200,000 UZS for 20 million UZS, as reported by the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office.
During a search of a Monza vehicle belonging to one of the suspects, officers discovered various tools and materials used in counterfeiting, including a ruler, scissors, a utility knife, four counterfeit banknotes, and 89 sheets of A4 paper printed with images resembling the national currency. Additionally, a computer and a color printer were confiscated as material evidence, further confirming the counterfeit operation.
Authorities have initiated a criminal case under Article 176 of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code, which deals with the production and distribution of counterfeit money, excise stamps, or securities. The successful apprehension of these individuals highlights the efforts of law enforcement in combatting financial crimes in the region.
