Tashkent to Introduce New Express Buses Connecting Outlying Districts to Metro Stations
The Government of Uzbekistan has announced critical measures for 2024 aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Tashkent. One of the key initiatives includes the introduction of express bus services that will connect remote parts of the city to metro stations.
This move is part of a presidential decree on the state program for 2024, which also proposes the implementation of a unified intelligent public transport management system. Specific express bus routes will be established to connect various areas to metro stations, including routes from “Nazarbek” to the Chorsu and Pakhtakor stations, and from the “Uchkahramon” area to the Yunusabad farmers’ market and Shahriston stations.
In addition to the express bus services, other measures planned to prevent congestion in Tashkent include organizing one-way traffic on certain streets, adjusting the schedules of higher education institutions to reduce peak-time transport loads, and restricting or regulating the movement of large-capacity and heavy freight vehicles during rush hours. The city also aims to upgrade 255 intersections with coordinated traffic lights to an integrated “smart light” system, establish paid on-street parking zones on at least ten streets, and set up permanent checkpoints on main access roads into the city for weight and size control.
These comprehensive strategies are part of a broader effort by the city of Tashkent to modernize its transport infrastructure, reduce traffic, and enhance the efficiency of its transit systems. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
