Tatar Emphasizes Türkiye as a Unified Entity, Despite TRNC’s Separateness – BRTK

In a recent meeting at his new presidential office, President Ersin Tatar welcomed Cevdet Yılmaz, the Vice President of Türkiye, illustrating the enduring relationship between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Türkiye. Despite recognizing their status as separate states, Tatar emphasized the significance of their collaboration, stating, “As the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, we are in the happiness of carrying out our work in the Blue Homeland for the survival of our national interests and our future in harmony with the Republic of Turkey.”
During the meeting, Tatar reflected on a pivotal moment in TRNC’s history that occurred the previous day, marking a significant milestone in the struggle for the Turkish Cypriot people’s existence. He recalled Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit in November 2020, which prompted the initiation of a new presidential campus project to replace the inadequate former colonial building.
The new campus, located on a sprawling 500-acre area in the Metehan region, is envisioned as a beacon of independence and freedom for the Turkish Cypriot community. Tatar expressed gratitude to Erdoğan for this development, stating, “This work is a sign of the independence and freedom of the Turkish Cypriot people.” The new site will include the Presidential and Republican Assembly buildings, a Supreme Court, a mosque, a national library, and a social activity area, positioning it as a central hub for the TRNC.
Tatar remarked, “Here, the people will meet again. The previous building was always accessible to the public, but this new venue represents a fresh start. The hall was filled during the opening ceremony, demonstrating the community’s eagerness to gather and celebrate.”
He also highlighted the success of Teknofest TRNC, noting its role in inspiring local youth through a variety of activities and competitions. Reflecting on these developments, Tatar stated, “All these studies are the biggest expression of our shout for two separate states, two separate peoples, and two democracies on Cyprus.”
As President Tatar continues to champion the TRNC’s interests, the collaborative efforts with Türkiye reinforce the shared cultural and political aspirations that aim to secure a prosperous future for the Turkish Cypriot community.
