Tax Service Chairman Calls for Abolishment of Transport Tax

Bishkek – 24.kg news agency reporter Nargiza TOKOEVA covered a recent meeting at the Parliament where MP Marlen Mamataliev raised the issue of fees on certain types of fuel and lubricants. The new Chairman of the Tax Service, Almambet Shykmamatov, was asked for his opinion on whether this would result in double taxation.

Shykmamatov explained that while there is already a transport tax in place, the funds collected are not always directed towards road repairs as intended. He proposed that introducing a fee on fuel and lubricants would ensure that the money goes directly to the road fund for maintenance and construction projects. To avoid double taxation, Shykmamatov suggested that the transport tax should be abolished.

This recommendation aims to improve the allocation of funds for road infrastructure and address the issue of misuse of tax revenue. The proposal will be further discussed by the Committee on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy as Kyrgyzstan aims to streamline its taxation system for the benefit of its citizens and infrastructure development.
