
TDK President Dr. Mert Speaks at Conference in EMU – BRTK

Today, a conference on “Türk Joint Alphabet Studies in the Turkish World” was held at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU).
The event, which took place at the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall, featured the President of the Republic of Turkey Turkish Language Association (TDK), Dr. Osman Mert, as a speaker.
During the conference, DEU Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Ahmet Pehlivan, highlighted the contributions of Dr. Mert to language knowledge in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Pehlivan emphasized that Dr. Mert’s inclusion of the TRNC in a common alphabet work among Turkish Republics marks a significant milestone.
EMU Rector, Dr. Hasan Kılıç, stated that the alphabet union will strengthen interactions within the Turkish world. He praised the efforts of Dr. Mert in leading these studies and expressed optimism that a common alphabet will establish a solid foundation for cultural heritage.
Dr. Mert emphasized the significance of a common alphabet in bringing people closer together and underscored the importance of Turkish language in preserving cultural identity and unity. He stated that unity in the alphabet can pave the way for unity in other fields.
Following the conference, Dr. Mert and Dr. Kılıç exchanged visits, with detailed discussions about EMU and mutual gifts being exchanged. The event concluded with Dr. Kılıç presenting Dr. Mert with a plaque in recognition of his contributions to the field.
