Tekirdag Governor’s Office Releases Official Statement on Grasshoppers – Breaking News Update

Locust Control Program Implemented in Tekirdağ to Protect Agricultural Lands

In response to the increasing density of locusts in the pasture of Hanoğlu Mahallesi in the Muratlı district of Tekirdağ, the Tekirdağ Governor’s Office has taken action. In a written statement, it was announced that investigations and determinations have been carried out on a neighborhood basis and the owners of the cultivated land in the region have been informed about the issue. The matter has also been immediately transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Since locust control is part of the state-supported control program, the necessary plant protection products for spraying have been provided free of charge by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. As a result, collective spraying has been initiated in the affected regions and is currently being conducted under the control and supervision of the teams from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.

In addition, the statement emphasizes the importance of following the guidance and recommendations of the technical teams from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. It is advised that spraying should be done in the evening hours to minimize harm to bees, especially during the period when sunflowers are blooming. It is also crucial for the producers to promptly check the lands bordering the pastures and report any locust density to the Provincial/District Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry.

The locust control measures aim to protect agricultural lands and ensure the well-being of the local farmers. The Tekirdağ Governor’s Office urges all producers to actively cooperate in implementing these measures to effectively combat the locust problem.
