Telephone scammers busted using cellular gateway in Baytik village
Illegal Equipment Seized in Private Educational Institution in Kyrgyzstan
On September 25, 2024, illegal equipment was discovered in the private educational institution Kut Bilim in Baytik village, Chui region, according to the press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS).
It was found that two citizens were using an illegal cellular gateway to facilitate the activities of a foreign communications operator that was not registered and did not have the appropriate licenses in Kyrgyzstan. This equipment allowed for the substitution of users’ identifiers and the organization of international connections, which were used by telephone scammers and individuals involved in making false reports of terrorism.
As a result of the investigation, the school was searched and the illegal equipment was seized. The investigation is still ongoing to determine the extent of the illegal activities and those involved.
