Temporary Residence Permits Granted to Citizens of Eight Countries in KR
New Rules for Temporary Residence Permits in Kyrgyzstan for Citizens of Eight Countries
Citizens of eight countries now have new rules to follow if they plan to stay in Kyrgyzstan for personal reasons not related to work, study, or business. The Director of the Population Registration Department, Arsen Minbaev, announced the changes at a press conference.
Effective September 5, citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Moldova must obtain a temporary residence permit if they intend to stay in Kyrgyz Republic for more than 60 days. Previously, these citizens could register for six months with the possibility of extension, but now the registration period is only for 60 days.
Minbaev explained that the new rule applies to individuals arriving in Kyrgyzstan for private purposes. For those visiting for work, business, or education, the procedure remains the same. The registration received by foreign citizens is valid until the end of the specified period, such as the end of the year or a specific date in the future.
The process of obtaining a temporary residence permit has been simplified, with a short list of required documents. Once the permit is obtained for a year, registration will also be made for one year.
The temporary residence permit requirement was introduced to provide legal grounds for citizens of these countries to stay in Kyrgyzstan. While citizens of EAEU states can stay for up to 90 days within each 180-day period without registration, citizens of Tajikistan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Moldova can stay for 60 days within a 120-day period. If they do not have the necessary permits, they must leave the country and wait before re-entering.
Failure to obtain a temporary residence permit within the registration period will require the individual to leave Kyrgyzstan, according to Minbaev. He advised individuals to use the allotted time wisely and to contact the appropriate authorities for assistance with the process.
