Thousands of Visitors Celebrate Spring at Kakava Fire Festival in Turkey’s Edirne
Tens of thousands of visitors from various provinces of Turkey and from neighboring countries, including Greece and Bulgaria, gathered in Sarayiçi to celebrate the arrival of spring at the Kakava fire festival in Edirne. The festival started with Edirne Governor Kürşat Kırbıyık, Edirne Mayor Recep Gürkan and members of the protocol lighting the giant fire prepared. Visitors enjoyed hours of entertainment and rhythm of the 9/8 Romany weather and immersed themselves in the festive atmosphere.
The festival represents a significant cultural event that reflects the rich heritage of the region. The colorful clothes worn by Roman citizens were a highlight of the event, featuring traditional clothing that adds a unique charm to the festival. The festivities continued throughout the night, with various entertainments until dawn.
Neslihan Tanır, who attended the festival, said that she tries to come every year, and it is always very crowded. Öykü Tanır, also attests to the success of the event, stating that she had a lot of fun with her mother.
Many visitors to the festival have made it a tradition to attend every year, with some attending for over a decade. Ayşegül Discovery, who came from Bursa, said, “We have been coming here with our special clothes for ten years. We are very happy every year. They love us very much, and we are known by everyone.”
Figen Ekiz, who has been attending the festival for ten years with friends from Bursa, stated that they are very happy this year, as every year, and that they will stay for two days. Sibel Kaya, who played, jumped from the fire, and made wishes, stated that the festivals reflect the cultural richness of the city and should be kept alive.
The Kakava fire festival celebrates spring and attracts visitors from various regions and neighboring countries, making it a significant cultural event in Turkey’s Edirne.
