Tevfik Göksu: Istanbul Municipality in Deep Debt

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Criticized for Debt and Hiring Spree
According to recent statements from AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Tevfik Göksu, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) is facing criticism for its increasing debt and high number of new hires.
Göksu accused Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu of running IMM like an institution focused solely on political career planning. He highlighted the increase in the municipality’s debt, stating that it has risen from 1.8 billion euros to 2.8 billion euros, representing a 52 percent increase.
In addition, Göksu revealed that 8,643 people were hired by IMM in the last 3 months, drawing attention to the high rate of new hires. He emphasized that under İmamoğlu’s leadership, IMM has experienced regression in various areas, including the rail system, roads, intersections, green areas, parking lots, urban transformation, and social housing.
These criticisms come in the wake of the March 31 local elections, and reflect growing concerns about the financial management and hiring policies of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The accuracy of these claims has not been independently verified, and officials from IMM have yet to respond to these allegations.
