Thanos: A Possible Return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Josh Brolin

Marvel Considers Bringing Thanos Back, Says Actor Josh Brolin

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for keeping the door open for the return of all characters, including those who have died, through the multiverse. Fans are always eager to know whether characters such as Black Widow, Iron Man, and Captain America will make a comeback in the MCU.

Now, actor Josh Brolin, who played the iconic villain Thanos, has revealed that there are discussions about bringing the character back in some way. Thanos, considered one of Marvel’s most powerful beings, met his demise in “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019, being killed twice — first by being decapitated, then by turning to dust.

While Thanos’s body did make a brief appearance in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” it was believed that the character was gone for good. However, Brolin’s recent comments to Comic Book suggest otherwise. He mentioned hearing rumors about Thanos’ return, particularly in the “What If…?” series, where a different version of the character could potentially appear.

With the “Infinity Saga” era coming to an end, Jonathan Majors’ Kang took over as the big bad of the MCU’s “Multiverse Saga” era. However, with Majors facing legal issues and being fired from Marvel, the position of the main villain in the MCU is once again up for grabs.

Marvel Studios is reportedly planning changes to several upcoming projects, including “Avengers 5,” which was formerly known as “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” But whether these changes will involve bringing back Thanos beyond what Brolin has heard remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, Brolin will be seen next month in “Dune: Part Two,” reprising his role as Gurney Halleck. As for Thanos, it seems that fans will have to stay tuned for further developments in the MCU.
