The Arrival of Donated Feed Barley from Turkey at Famagusta Port
Turkey Supports Sheep Farmers in Northern Cyprus with Barley Donation
Due to the ongoing drought in the region, Turkey has stepped in to support sheep farmers in Northern Cyprus by donating 9,400 tons of barley. The first shipment of 3,300 tons arrived at Famagusta Port this afternoon, with the remaining shipments expected to follow soon.
The Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hüseyin Çavuş, along with Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia, Metin Feyzioğlu, were present at the port to oversee the arrival of the barley. Ambassador Feyzioğlu highlighted the importance of this donation, which will meet a quarter of the daily feed needs of 4,000 small livestock businesses in the region.
Feyzioğlu emphasized the strong partnership between Turkey and Northern Cyprus, stating that the two countries are always working hand in hand. He expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Agriculture, the Prime Minister, and the government for their cooperation and support in making this donation possible.
Minister Çavuş acknowledged the challenging conditions faced by sheep farmers due to the dry year ahead. He praised the collaborative efforts with Turkey to ensure the sustainability of production in the region. The Minister also noted the importance of the barley donation in supporting farmers during the drought period.
With the support of Turkey and the efforts of Ambassador Feyzioğlu, the grant barley donation aims to alleviate the impact of the drought on sheep farmers and promote agricultural sustainability in Northern Cyprus.
