The Budapest Murder: Ex-Husband Charged in Japanese Woman’s Death
A 45-year-old Irish national, David A., is facing murder charges after the death of his Japanese ex-wife, Megumi, whose body was found in a burnt apartment in Budapest on January 29. The case has shocked many as disturbing details emerge of threats, weapons cache, and a “death list” that included even his own parents.
David and Megumi, who had been living in Hungary for over ten years, had divorced due to their deteriorating relationship. Their two children stayed with Megumi while David moved to the Netherlands but often visited Budapest and stayed in Megumi’s apartment.
On the morning of January 29, David claimed he took his daughter swimming and returned to find the apartment on fire. However, CCTV footage disproved his alibi, leading police to believe he intentionally set the fire that killed Megumi.

The Budapest Police Headquarters confirmed the seizure of firearms but did not provide further details as the investigation continues. This case has sparked discussions about domestic violence protections and firearm regulations in Hungary.
