The Commander’s Touch: Comforting Mehmetçik’s Tears

Infantry Specialist Sergeant Samet Aslan, who was martyred in the Claw-Lock Operation region in northern Iraq, was laid to rest in his hometown of Amasya. His father, kissing his son’s photo, expressed his pride and gratitude for raising such a son for the country and nation. The father’s fortitude as he kissed his son’s coffin wrapped in the Turkish flag drew attention, as did the reactions of citizens at the funeral, chanting slogans against terrorism. Heartbreaking images surfaced of a Turkish soldier at the funeral, unable to control his tears, with his commander coming to wipe them away. This emotional scene has once again touched the hearts of the nation.
