The Consequences of Abandoned Matches

The 17th week of Trendyol Super League was marked by the abandonment of the match between Istanbulspor and Trabzonspor. The home team withdrew from the field in the 73rd minute, leading to speculation among football fans about the outcome of the match.
In accordance with the Football Competition Instructions of the Turkish Football Federation, a team that leaves the competition is given a decision of defeat by default. Additionally, points equal to the points awarded in case of victory are deducted from the team’s existing points. The club must also pay compensation to cover the expenses of the referees, other costs, and the losses of the opposing team.
Furthermore, teams that do not participate in a competition for the second time during a season or leave the field may face relegation to a lower league as a result of a decision of defeat by default.
The match between Istanbulspor and Trabzonspor was abandoned following a controversial decision by the referee. Istanbulspor Club President Ecmel Faik Sarıalioğlu withdrew his team from the field in reaction to the referee’s failure to call a foul before the second goal. Despite some Istanbulspor players urging to continue playing, Sarıalioğlu stood firm in his decision, leading his team to leave the field.
The final decision regarding the abandoned match will be made by the Turkish Football Federation. This incident has left football fans eagerly anticipating the outcome and potential consequences for both teams involved.
