TÜKONFED President Aydın Ağaoğlu addressed the issue, stating that landlords cannot refuse housing to single individuals. Unfortunately, these discussions between landlords and tenants have turned into heated debates, leading to negative outcomes. Ağaoğlu emphasized the importance of renting a house for a just cause and urged citizens who encounter such injustice to speak up. He also assured that there are laws in place to protect them.
In terms of consequences for discriminatory practices, administrative fines may be imposed on landlords who engage in discrimination. Additionally, those affected have the option to file a lawsuit seeking compensation for moral damages. Lawyer Nermin Kısa highlighted that any form of discrimination constitutes a crime, and individuals who face discrimination based on factors such as gender, race, language, religion, or marital status can seek legal action. Landlords, real estate agents, and relevant websites can also face penalties and fines.
This issue sheds light on the significance of fair and equal access to housing for all individuals, regardless of their marital status.
