The End of Akşener’s Era in the İYİ Party: A Farewell Speech

The leadership of Meral Akşener in the İYİ Party is reaching its conclusion as the 5th extraordinary congress approaches. The new İYİ Party Chairman will be determined at this congress, with various names expressing their intentions to participate in the presidential race.
Koray Aydın, a potential candidate for chairman, has stated that if elected, the party will focus on highlighting the mistakes of the government rather than engaging in conflicts with the opposition. He also mentioned the importance of wider collaborations, not limited to the CHP. Aydın highlighted the missed opportunities for cooperation in local elections, which could have resulted in the İYİ Party gaining more mayors and strengthening its position.
Another contender in the congress, Müsavat Dervişoğlu, emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough evaluation and self-criticism before entering the race. Dervişoğlu expressed his intention to initiate an evaluation study related to the analysis of the process once elected as chairman.
The decision to restrict party members from entering the congress hall due to capacity limitations has sparked controversy, with candidate Tolga Akalın inviting party members to attend the congress at the designated address.
During the congress, each candidate will have 40 minutes to speak, with Meral Akşener expected to deliver an emotional farewell speech. The chairman election will require a simple majority in the first two rounds, with the possibility of a third round if no candidate secures more than half of the 1302 delegate votes. The chairman with the most votes in the third round will be elected, followed by elections to determine the authorized boards.
