Homeowner in Istanbul Builds Wall Over Door After Thief Breaks In
In the Merkez District of Avcılar, Istanbul, a homeowner took a drastic and unique measure to protect his property after a thief broke into his house. The incident occurred in a building that was evacuated and scheduled to be demolished as part of urban transformation.
The suspect entered the partially vacated house of Koray Avuç, who lives on the top floor of the 6-story building, and took valuable belongings. When the residents of the apartment noticed the thief, they became suspicious as the building was supposed to be empty. Upon being informed, Avuç immediately called the police. In an attempt to prevent the police from entering, the suspect broke the door lock, further escalating the situation.
The locksmith called by the police was unable to open the broken lock, prompting a call to the fire brigade. After several failed attempts to open the steel door, a chainsaw was finally used to cut a hole, allowing the police to enter the house. However, the suspect was nowhere to be found.
In response to the break-in, Avuç decided to take precautions to avoid a similar situation in the future. He constructed a wall over the door of his house as a protective measure. Avuç stated, “In order to avoid encountering a similar situation again, I built a wall at the door after taking the belongings from the house.”
The homeowner’s unusual solution to prevent further break-ins has drawn attention and sparked discussions in the neighborhood. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of security and protection of property, especially in buildings scheduled for demolition.
