The Impact of the Classroom Environment on Students: Expert Opinions

The Ministry of National Education Takes Action Against Classroom Motherhood
Complaints from parents have led the Ministry of National Education (MEB) to take action against the practice of classroom motherhood, which is currently not included in the legislation. It was discovered that some class mothers were collecting money for various reasons, while others were becoming too involved in classroom activities.
In a letter sent to the governorships of all 81 provinces, the MEB requested that practices under the name of class mother and similar names should not be allowed. The concerns raised by psychologists and education experts highlight the potential negative effects of classroom motherhood on children’s development and the educational environment.
Psychologist Hacer Yücetürk expressed concerns about the impact of classroom motherhood on students, stating that children of working mothers or those who cannot be present at school due to other commitments may feel loneliness and exclusion when the class mother becomes too involved in the classroom dynamics. While some experts argue that classroom motherhood can be beneficial within certain limits, the illegal and unethical implementation of this practice in many schools is causing disruptions in the education system.
Education expert Nur Erdem Özeren underscored the need for a structured and controllable framework for classroom motherhood. She emphasized the importance of involving families in the education process and educating them about their roles in the school environment. However, the Ministry has emphasized that the interference of non-teaching personnel in the classroom can negatively impact the quality of education.
The concerns raised by the Ministry of National Education reflect the need to reassess the role of parents and other individuals in the school environment. The potential benefits of classroom motherhood must be balanced against the potential negative effects, and clear guidelines should be established to ensure the proper functioning of educational environments.
