Tragic Incident at Gölpark: 15-Year-Old Canoeist Lost in Sapanca Lake
A tragic incident occurred two days ago at Gölpark located in the district of Serdivan, where a total of 8 people were canoeing in Sapanca Lake. Due to severe winds, the canoe capsized, leading to a rescue operation involving health, police, gendarmerie, and AFAD teams.
The gendarmerie and AFAD teams managed to rescue 7 people who fell into the lake, but a 15-year-old child named Kağan Ege Baran was still missing. The search operation continued the following day, with a total of 110 teams, including police, firefighters, gendarmerie, and NGOs, deploying drones, sonar devices, boats, and a search helicopter to locate Baran.
After an extensive search effort, Baran’s lifeless body was found in the lake. The gendarmerie search and rescue teams retrieved his body, which was then transferred to Sakarya Training and Research Hospital Korucuk Campus for autopsy.
Kağan Ege Baran’s final journey was a heartbreaking one, as his lifeless body was later delivered to his family and brought to Kavaklı Mosque in Adapazarı district. The father’s emotional moment of fulfilling the last task of carrying his son’s coffin touched the hearts of many. Baran was laid to rest in Hanlı Neighborhood Cemetery in Arifiye district after a funeral prayer.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can arise while engaging in water sports, highlighting the importance of safety measures and precautions.
