
The Relevance of Jadids’ Contribution to National Statehood Studies

President of Uzbekistan calls for the study of Turkestan autonomy’s legal basis and the historical assessment of progressive intellectuals
During the international conference on the theme “Jadids: ideas of national identity, independence and statehood” in Tashkent, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan expressed the importance of studying the historical activities of progressive intellectuals for building a secular, legal, and democratic society.
The President’s address was read out by presidential adviser Khayriddin Sultonov at the opening of the conference. Mirziyoyev congratulated the participants on the opening of the conference and emphasized that the Jadid movement had deep historical significance not only in Central Asia but also in the Muslim and Turkic world.
Mirziyoyev also thanked international organizations and renowned scientists from various countries for supporting the organization of the conference. He highlighted the need for in-depth research and promotion of the exemplary activities of enlightening ancestors and their rich heritage in partnership with representatives from different countries and international organizations.
The President stressed the importance of thoroughly studying the great contribution of the Jadid movement to the development of national statehood and civil society in Central Asia. He also emphasized the significance of researching and systematizing the advanced ideas and views of progressive ancestors, studying the role of Turkestan moderns in building a secular, legal, and democratic society, and evaluating their historical activities.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized that the Jadid ancestors believed in knowledge and enlightenment as crucial for lifting people out of ignorance and backwardness. Their efforts included establishing schools, theaters, libraries, publishing houses, newspapers, and magazines, as well as sending young people to study in advanced countries.
The President acknowledged the challenges faced by the progressive ancestors due to the existing social system at that time. However, he called for the reflection on their ideas in the creation of the New Uzbekistan and the Third Renaissance. Overall, the conference aims to shed light on the historical, societal, and legal aspects of the Jadid movement and its relevance in contemporary times.
