St. Andrea Estate’s Red Wine Receives Rave Review from Wine Expert James Suckling
St. Andrea Estate, located in Hungary, has recently received high praise for its red wine from none other than internationally renowned wine expert, James Suckling. Suckling, who visited the St. Andrea Estate in Egerszalók in July, published his review of Hungarian wines in October, awarding the estate’s Agapé 2018 with an outstanding rating of 98 out of 100 points.
The wine, described as a St. Andrea Egri Bikavér Grand Superior Nagy-Eged-Hegy Agapé 2018, was highlighted by Suckling for its intense aromas of red fruits, flowers, and minerals, as well as its medium to full body with focused and refined tannins and a long finish. Suckling even went as far as to say that it compares to some of the best reds in the world.
This recognition comes as no surprise, as St. Andrea Estate has a history of receiving international acclaim. Two years ago, their Nagy-Eged Egri Bikavér 2017 was selected among the world’s top 50 wines at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
The owners of St. Andrea Estate, György Lőrincz and Jr. György Lőrincz, have expressed their gratitude for the high rating, with Jr. György Lőrincz stating, “The 98 points are pretty amazing. We have always had the feeling that 2018 was probably the best vintage of St. Andrea, but the Agapé from this year actually outshines it. It’s the best wine we have ever had the pleasure of making. We are so grateful!”
St. Andrea Estate, which was established in 2002 by the Lőrincz family, prides itself on producing top-quality wines in Hungary. The recognition from James Suckling only further solidifies their position as one of the best wineries in the country and on an international scale.
With Hungary’s unique landscapes for winemaking gaining international attention, such as Tokaj being included in the Best Tourism Villages 2023 list by UNWTO, the future looks bright for the country’s wine industry.
