Three Doctors Arrested in Issyk-Kul Region

Several Doctors Detained in Kyrgyzstan After Patient’s Death

On February 8, several doctors in Kyrgyzstan were detained at work and taken to a temporary detention center in the Ak-Suu district, Issyk-Kul region. The head of the Independent Medical Trade Union, Bermet Baryktabasova, made the announcement on Facebook, stating that the doctors were detained in connection with the death of a patient.

According to Baryktabasova, the patient, a young girl, had been in and out of hospitals for a month after being poisoned at a family event. The family initially brought her to the Ak-Suu Territorial Hospital, but her condition worsened and she eventually passed away at the National Hospital in Bishkek. A forensic examination later revealed that her death was caused by poisoning.

The Department of Internal Affairs in the region confirmed the detention of the doctors and stated that within the framework of the initiated criminal case, three doctors from Ak-Suu Hospital were held for 48 hours until a measure of restraint is chosen. The father of the deceased girl had appealed to the police, leading to the detention of the medical workers.

The Ministry of Health has conducted an inspection into this case, and it is clear that the authorities are taking the matter seriously. It remains to be seen how the case will progress and what measures of restraint will ultimately be chosen for the detained doctors. This incident has sparked public concern about the quality of medical care in the region, and further developments are awaited.
