Toktogul Reservoir in Kyrgyzstan Experiences Drop in Water Level
The volume of water in Kyrgyzstan’s Toktogul reservoir has decreased by 2 billion cubic meters compared to last year, according to Deputy Minister of Energy Mirlan Zhakypov. Speaking at a meeting of the Committee on Fuel, Energy Complex, Subsoil Use and Industrial Policy of the Parliament, Zhakypov said that to date, the water level stands at 8.8 billion cubic meters. This has led to concerns from some deputies, including Taalaibek Sarybashev, who asked if there were any cryptocurrency mining farms on the reservoir’s territory that could be contributing to the drop in water level. Zhakypov denied this and attributed the recent increase in water inflow to the reservoir to a recent rainy day.
