Top Price Tags: 2023’s Most Expensive “Beautiful” License Plates Sold
Last year saw a significant increase in the sale of expensive license plates in Uzbekistan, with a total of over 87 thousand plates sold for a staggering 400 billion soums. According to a report from the UzEx press service, the most expensive plate was purchased by a legal entity for 450 million soums, surpassing the previous record set in 2021.
In second place was a plate sold for 439.56 million soums, followed by plates worth 399.6 million, 395 million, and 378.18 million soums, purchased by individuals. However, it was revealed that the highly sought-after plate 777 RRR, which fetched nearly 900 million soums at auction in October 2023, was not fully registered by the buyer at the traffic police department.
In April 2021, a license plate was sold for 441.5 million soums, almost double the previous record of 206.7 million soums set when the plate with the number 001 was sold. The sales volume of expensive plates has been on the rise, with 86.7 billion soums worth of plates sold in the three months leading up to the previous year, doubling the sales compared to 2020.
The popularity and value of exclusive license plates continue to grow in Uzbekistan, reflecting a trend of luxury and prestige in the market for personalized vehicle identification.
