Tougher Consequences for Illegal IMEI Code Changes
The Senate has recently approved a new law that introduces liability for illegal changes to IMEI codes and information violations related to defamation of citizens. The law, titled “On amendments and additions to the criminal, criminal-procedural and administrative responsibility codes”, aims to address various forms of digital extortion and manipulation of personal data.
One of the key points of the law is the inclusion of administrative liability for illegally changing the international unique identification code of a mobile device or the identification module of a subscriber device. This comes in response to the increasing cases of demanding money from individuals by threatening to block mobile devices and social media accounts, as well as the falsification of biometric data using special programs.
Furthermore, the law also addresses the circulation and mining of illegal crypto-assets, providing appropriate liability for violations of the legislation in this field. However, those involved in such activities will be exempted from criminal liability if they voluntarily report the crime and assist in uncovering it.
The approval of this law reflects the government’s efforts to strengthen digital security and protect citizens from various forms of cyber threats and extortion. It also sends a clear message that illegal activities related to digital devices and personal data will not be tolerated.
Overall, the introduction of this new law is a positive step towards creating a safer digital environment for individuals and businesses alike. It is hoped that it will serve as an effective deterrent against illegal activities and provide the necessary legal framework to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
