A tragic accident near Kara-Balta city has led to the death of six passengers, including children as young as four years old. The driver, a 40-year-old resident of Kara-Balta, was detained in connection with the incident, which occurred on June 20th.
According to the Central Internal Affairs Department of Chui region, a Volkswagen Jetta car driven by the man ended up in a pond in Altyn village, resulting in the tragic loss of lives. The driver, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, lost control of the vehicle on the way back from a family outing at pond No. 3.
Despite warnings that swimming was prohibited at the pond, the driver decided to take his wife, their children, and other family members for a day of relaxation. Tragically, the outing ended in disaster when the car plunged into the water, claiming the lives of six passengers.
Among the survivors were the driver’s wife, their three-month-old daughter, and his wife’s sister with her seven-year-old daughter. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment while the driver was taken into custody for investigation.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 312 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, citing the violation of traffic safety rules and operation of motor vehicles. Authorities emphasized that the driver’s reckless actions, including driving under the influence of alcohol, directly resulted in the tragic loss of lives.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, with a forensic examination ordered to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal incident. The driver remains in temporary detention as authorities continue their inquiries into the heartbreaking accident near Kara-Balta city.
