Turkish Music Icon Edip Akbayram Passes Away at 75
Renowned Turkish musician Edip Akbayram has died at the age of 75 after battling pneumonia and internal bleeding. The artist was being treated at the Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital before succumbing to multiple organ failure on March 2, 2025.
In a statement released by the hospital, it was confirmed that Edip Akbayram passed away in the evening after spending 52 days in intensive care. Known for his unforgettable contributions to Turkish music, Akbayram had a successful career spanning over five decades.
Akbayram’s wife and daughter provided updates on his health status throughout his treatment, with his daughter Türkü Akbayram sharing updates on social media. Despite the efforts of doctors, the artist’s condition worsened leading to his untimely passing.
Born in Gaziantep in 1950, Edip Akbayram was a talented musician whose career included hits such as “Keep Your Heart at Ease” and “The Bandit is not the Ruler of the World.” He rose to fame after winning the Golden Microphone Competition in the 1970s and went on to release over 20 albums and numerous hit singles.
