Tragic Deaths of Six Infants in Gaza Due to Severe Cold
The harsh winter weather in Gaza has brought additional suffering to the people of the region, despite a ceasefire being reached after more than 15 months of ongoing attacks by Israel. Due to a shortage of housing and heating materials, the situation has become dire for many families.
According to Salah, the Director of Patient Friends Hospital in Gaza, nine babies have been brought to the hospital in the last two weeks due to severe colds. Tragically, five of these babies have passed away, with one remaining in intensive care and connected to a respiratory device. Three children have been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
The children who were brought to the hospital had dangerously low body temperatures, difficulty breathing, plummeting blood pressure, and compromised lung function. Salah emphasized the urgent need for heating materials, especially for children and babies, calling on the international community to take immediate action.
The government’s media office in Gaza has reported that a total of 13 children have now lost their lives due to the cold weather. More than 61,000 Palestinians have been injured, 14,000 have been killed, and 2 million people have been displaced as a result of Israel’s attacks in Gaza over the past 15 months. The infrastructure in Gaza has been significantly damaged, with 88% of it being targeted in the attacks.
The people of Gaza are in desperate need of essential supplies such as food, clean water, shelter, and heating materials. The ongoing restrictions on humanitarian aid deliveries by Israel have only exacerbated the already dire situation in the region. It is crucial for immediate assistance to be provided to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza.
