A Tragic Accident Claims the Lives of a Grandmother and Granddaughter
A heartbreaking accident took place yesterday evening around 19.30 in the 5th stage of TOKİ Housing in Cumhuriyet Mahallesi. The incident involved a service minibus with the registration number 68 S 07 65, driven by Çaban Mercan (65), which struck Selver Karataş and her granddaughter Damla Yağmur as they were crossing the road. Authorities were quickly notified and police and medical teams rushed to the scene.
Tragically, Damla Yağmur was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Selver Karataş, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to the hospital but, devastatingly, could not be saved.
The news of the accident devastated Abdullah Karataş, who fainted upon hearing that his wife and granddaughter had passed away. Sobbing, Karataş expressed his despair to the police, saying, “My grandson’s father also died not long ago, what am I to do now?”
Meanwhile, Gülizar Yağmur (32), who rushed to the hospital upon hearing of the accident, also received heartbreaking news. It was revealed that Yağmur had lost her husband, Hüseyin Yağmur, to a brain hemorrhage just a year ago. Since then, she had been raising her two daughters on her own.
After necessary procedures, Damla Yağmur’s body was taken to Çekiçler village by her relatives in the early hours of the morning. Sadly, it was discovered that it was Damla Yağmur’s birthday today. Selver Karataş will also be laid to rest today, while the investigation into the detained minibus driver continues.
This tragic accident has left a community in mourning, with two innocent lives lost in a heartbreaking turn of events. Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones affected by this devastating loss.
