Tragic Landslide in Erzincan İliç Mine: 2 More Workers Found Dead
Two More Bodies Found in Tragic Mine Landslide
In the aftermath of the devastating landslide that occurred at a mine in Erzincan’s İliç district on February 13, the bodies of two more workers have been discovered buried under the ground. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, confirmed the grim news in a statement, expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased.
“Our search efforts, which have been ongoing non-stop since the tragic incident, have led to the discovery of two more of our worker brothers,” Bayraktar stated. Despite this somber discovery, rescue teams are working around the clock to locate the remaining five miners who are still missing.
The landslide, which happened at the Çöpler Mine on that fateful Tuesday afternoon, resulted in a massive 10 million cubic meter mass sliding down, trapping nine workers beneath it. The mine, operated by Anagold Madencilik and in operation since December 2010, has been the center of a frantic rescue mission to save the lives of those still unaccounted for.
As the search and rescue operation continues, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims as the community comes to terms with this tragic event.
