Rescue workers in the Dominican Republic are tirelessly searching for survivors following a tragic roof collapse at a nightclub in Santo Domingo. The incident occurred at the Jet Set club, resulting in at least 124 fatalities and over 150 injuries. The collapse took place just before 01:00 local time during a concert by merengue singer Rubby Pérez, with the venue packed with hundreds of guests.
The Head of Emergency Operations, Juan Manuel Méndez, has stated that his team has a limited window of “24 to 36 hours” to find any remaining survivors beneath the rubble. Among the confirmed casualties are prominent figures such as Rubby Pérez, former Major League Baseball players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco, and a provincial governor.
Heartbreaking mobile phone footage from inside the club has emerged, showing Pérez performing on stage as the structure collapses, capturing the devastation and chaos of the event. The nation mourns the loss of these individuals and stands in solidarity with those affected by this tragedy.
