Tragic Traffic Accident Claims Life of Police Officer in Konya
A police officer was killed and two others were seriously injured in a tragic traffic accident in the central Karatay district of Konya. The incident occurred at the junction of Saadet Street and Okyar Street in the Tatlıcak neighborhood when a patrol police team collided with a truck.
The victim, identified as police officer Onur Sirin, lost his life in the accident, while his colleagues, Hüseyin Sağlam and Oğuz Demirkır, sustained severe injuries. They were immediately taken to the city hospital for treatment after receiving initial medical intervention from emergency teams.
Konya Governor Ibrahim Akin, Provincial Police Chief Maksut Yuki, Mayor Ugur Ibrahim Altay, and Chief Public Prosecutor Halil Inal visited the injured police officers at the hospital to inquire about their health status and receive updates from medical authorities.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya expressed his condolences for the fallen hero and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured officers in a statement on social media. He mourned the loss of Police Officer Onur Sirin and extended sympathies to their families and colleagues.
A farewell ceremony will be held today for Police Officer Onur Sirin, who will be sent off to his hometown of Isparta. The ceremony will take place at the Konya Provincial Police Department campus, where citizens are invited to pay their respects and honor the memory of the fallen officer.
