
Transnational Criminal Ring Busted in Osh Attempting Mercury Sale

The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) has made a significant arrest in Osh, detaining a transnational criminal group attempting to sell 0.5 kilograms of mercury. The group, composed of individuals from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, was apprehended on January 18 in a local café.
Reports from the SCNS indicate that the dangerous substance was illicitly transported into Kyrgyzstan from Uzbekistan. The smugglers had placed a value of $4,000 per gram on the mercury they were attempting to sell.
Those apprehended include a citizen of Uzbekistan, identified as B.B.A., and individuals from Kyrgyz Republic named M.S.Kh., M.S.Kh., and S.U.K. All suspects have been placed in the pre-trial detention center of the SCNS, with a criminal case initiated under Article 292 of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Criminal Code, relating to the illegal circulation of potent or toxic substances for sale.
Efforts are currently underway to identify any additional individuals linked to the criminal activities of this group. The SCNS continues to conduct investigative and operational measures in order to ensure the safety and security of the region.
