Two Government Officials Arrested for Corruption in Uzbekistan
In recent developments in Uzbekistan, two government officials have been arrested for corruption in separate cases.
The chief specialist of the Transport Department in Khorezm was apprehended for accepting an $80,000 advance payment. This came after he demanded a total of $135,000 in exchange for transferring a 960-square-meter land plot in Urgench to an entrepreneur’s name through his contacts in the cadastral authorities. The official also pledged to facilitate the necessary paperwork for the construction of a multi-story residential building on the land. The land originally belonged to another citizen and was being used for transportation services. A criminal case has been opened against the individual under specific articles of the Criminal Code, and investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident in the Fergana Region, another government official, the head specialist from the Agro-Industrial Complex Oversight Inspection in Yazyavan district, was arrested for creating false technical passports and labels for non-existent construction machinery. He reportedly did this in exchange for $8,700 to boost a contractor company’s profile on the national information system and help with its tender submissions. A criminal case has also been initiated against this individual under relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and investigations are currently underway.
These arrests highlight the government’s commitment to combating corruption at all levels. Authorities are urging citizens to report any instances of corruption they encounter, as the country strives to promote transparency and accountability in its governance.
