Transport Minister Faces Criticism for Failures in Department

The President of Uzbekistan recently held a meeting to address the shortcomings in reducing traffic and improving public transport in the capital city of Tashkent. The Minister of Transport, his first deputy, the head of the MIA Traffic Safety Service, and the chairman of “Toshshakhartranskhizmat” JSC were reprimanded and issued a final warning due to these shortcomings.
Despite the presence of multiple ministries, offices, and inspectorates responsible for the construction, housing, communal economy, transport, and ecology sectors, the people continue to express dissatisfaction with the state of these areas. The President highlighted the need to introduce modern standards to the construction industry, update construction norms, decrease the cost of drinking water and network losses, increase local flights, reduce traffic in Tashkent, and improve public transport.
As a result, the Minister of Transport, his first deputy, the head of the MIA Traffic Safety Service, and the chairman of “Toshshakhartranskhizmat” JSC were reprimanded and given a final warning for their unsatisfactory work in these areas. The Minister of Transport had previously been warned about issues related to the organization of reliable logistics chains for the delivery of local products to foreign markets.
It is clear that the government is taking a strong stance on improving these sectors and holding officials accountable for the necessary improvements. Measures are being put in place to ensure that the people of Tashkent have access to efficient public transport and experience reduced traffic congestion.
