Trends in marriage and divorce impact slowing population growth in Uzbekistan
The latest statistics from Uzbekistan show that in the first half of this year, there were 97,400 registered marriages in the country. This number is slightly lower than the same period last year, with 1,300 fewer marriages reported. The average age for women getting married was 22.9 years, while for men, it was 27.8 years. On a positive note, the number of divorces decreased by 11.6% compared to the previous year.
As of July 1, 2024, Uzbekistan’s population stood at 37.1342 million, which reflects an increase of 2.1% or 761,800 people compared to the same period last year. However, there has been a slight slowdown in population growth this year, with the growth rate at 2.1% compared to 2.2% in 2023.
During the first six months of 2024, the number of registered marriages decreased by 1,265 compared to the same period last year and by 11,534 compared to 2022. The majority of marriages, 76.2%, involved women under the age of 25.
In terms of divorces, there were 22,467 registered divorces in the first half of this year, which is 11.6% lower than in 2023. However, this number is higher than in 2021. The distribution of divorces in childless marriages, those with one child, and those with two or more children was 46.6%, 29.4%, and 24%, respectively.
The average age of divorced men was 37.1 years, while for women, it was 32.2 years. The majority of divorces, 64.1%, involved women under the age of 35. These statistics provide valuable insights into the trends in marriages and divorces in Uzbekistan, highlighting the changing demographic landscape of the country.
