Truck drivers sentenced to 15 years for accidents 33 minutes apart – Last minute news from Turkey
Truck drivers Yunus Grassafli and Umut Gündüz have been sentenced to 15 years in prison for their involvement in a tragic accident that resulted in multiple fatalities. The prosecutor presented his opinion in the case, stating that the drivers did not show enough care while navigating the sloping road, leading to the weakening of the vehicle’s braking system and ultimately causing the accidents.
The drivers were found to be primarily at fault for the accidents, as they ignored the technical characteristics of the vehicles, did not maintain appropriate gear, and failed to adhere to speed limits and traffic signs. As a result, they were charged with “causing death by negligence” and sentenced to imprisonment.
However, in a surprising turn of events, the owners of the company were acquitted of any wrongdoing in the case. The accident, which occurred near a fuel station in Derik district, resulted in the deaths of several individuals, including children and elderly people. The community was left in shock and mourning as emergency teams responded to the scene.
Tragically, a second accident occurred just 33 minutes after the initial incident, involving another TIR truck and resulting in further injuries and fatalities. The series of accidents left a total of 47 people injured and multiple vehicles and workplaces damaged.
