Trump’s Last Minute Announcement: US Market Swings as China Tax Increased to 125%
US President Donald Trump has once again stirred up tensions with China by announcing a significant increase in tariffs. CNN Türk Washington Representative Yunus Paksoy reported that Trump imposed a 125% customs duty on Chinese goods, while taxes for the rest of the world were halted for 90 days, only to be set at 10% thereafter.
In a statement, Trump criticized China’s behavior in global markets and justified the drastic increase in tariffs. He emphasized, “Due to China’s disrespect for global markets, the United States has decided to raise customs duties on Chinese imports to 125% immediately.”
Moreover, Trump revealed that more than 75 countries have reached out to the United States to initiate negotiations on various trade-related issues, including trade barriers, customs tariffs, currency manipulation, and non-monetary tariffs. Representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the Treasury Department, and the US Trade Representative are expected to be involved in these discussions.
Despite the widespread outreach from other countries, Trump stated that none of them have retaliated against the US. As a result, he declared a 90-day hiatus on further actions and implemented a mutual 10% customs duty during this period.
