New Mayor Cevdet Konak Announces Debt and Inventory Study Results in Tunceli Municipality

In the recent 31 March Local Government General Election in Tunceli, DEM Party member Cevdet Konak was elected as the mayor. Following his election, Mayor Konak, along with municipality co-mayor Birsen Orhan, revealed the debts remaining from the previous Mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu’s term at the Municipal Council Meeting.

Mayor Konak shared findings from an inventory study conducted after taking over the municipality, stating that Tunceli Municipality has 15 active directorates. He highlighted the need for demolishing buildings such as the old municipality service building, fire brigade building, and the old Youth Cultural Center building.

Furthermore, it was disclosed that the municipality has real estate assets consisting of 193 workplaces that have been rented out, as well as various other properties including residential buildings and commercial spaces. The total number of vehicles and construction equipment in the municipality was reported to be 71, with some being non-operational and in need of replacement.

Mayor Konak emphasized the importance of quickly initiating infrastructure and landscaping projects with the actively working vehicles at their disposal.

Regarding the financial situation of the municipality, Mayor Konak revealed that the total debt as of April 5, 2024, amounts to 230 million 673 thousand 692 liras. He stated that the municipality’s total income for 2023 was 188 million liras, while total expenses reached 271 million liras, resulting in a negative balance transferred to 2024.

Personnel expenses were highlighted as a significant portion of the gross budget, accounting for 84 percent. Mayor Konak mentioned that 145 people were hired during the last 5-year period.

It was noted that the previous Mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu had taken over the municipality with a debt of 67 million 567 thousand 806 lira, setting the financial context for the current administration under Mayor Konak’s leadership.
